Designer Specs Firm Bucks The Trend

It’s not all doom and gloom during the credit crunch as Nottingham designer specs family business prove otherwise.  Two brothers from Nottingham are launching an online business selling designer frames, following rapid growth during their first year of trading.
Ophthalmic opticians, Alpesh and Vimesh Bhundia opened Designer SPX in Nottingham’s Victoria Centre in 2007, having already established SPX Opticians on Nuthall Road.  Just over a year on, Alpesh comments that “The first year was extremely exciting and rewarding.  We were delighted by our customers’ positive response!”
When it comes to eyewear, it seems people are not shying away from designer brands just because of the credit crunch.  Alpesh attributes the success of the business to the greater amount of flexibility that they can offer as a small independent service provider, compared to the larger chains, as well to their competitive pricing.
The credit crunch has influenced consumer spending habits and people seem to be hunting for bargains more than ever before.  “People are now prepared to shop around to find high quality products and service along with a competitive price” explained Vimesh.
Business is second nature to the brothers, whose father taught them the value of good customer service at the family’s news agency before putting all three sons through optometry training.  For the brothers, this is still a valuable lesson which they put into practice by setting aside enough time for each eye test to allow for every individual’s needs.
“Over the past eighteen months we have increased our range of frames, sunglasses and our contact lens service dramatically and we are already well ahead of ourselves as far as the company’s growth is concerned” Alpesh remarked.

The store stocks a wide range of designer frames and sunglasses including Prada, Versace, Bvlgari and Daniel Swarovski.  They are also among a handful of authorised dealers for Jimmy Choo in the East Midlands.

Designer SPX will be taking its business online with the launch of its new website: www.designerspx.co.uk. The brothers are confident that their in-store as well as online ‘price match promise’ strategy, along with their personal touch, will see the business go from strength to strength.
